Post by 管理将校 » 2005.Oct.20(Thu) 00:27

_______PLAYER NOTES:**

The battle can be fought from either side. The more challenging is that of the Ethiopian Cavalry and it is recommended as the human player side.*
*
The British were allies of the Ethiopian so their flag is used to represent the country.*
*
__HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:*
*
Il Duce's dream of a revived Roman Empire began in one of the easier
areas of conquest, or so he thought. Sending his troops to East Africa,
the first step would be the subjugation of Ethiopia.*
*
The Ethiopians, however, were just not going to go along with this plan.
Even though poorly equipped and lacking in modern military training,
Haile Salassie's soldier made up for it in enthusiasm and age-old
craftiness.*
*
On December 15th, 1935, Ras Imru, senior Ethiopian leader had forced
marched 20,000 troops to the area where the Italian Army under Marshal
Badoglio was camped.*
*
Crossing the Takkazzee River, they moved up into the nearby hills. In a
brief encounter with a mounted Italian patrol, the Ethiopians put them
to flight.*
*
Major Critini, in charge of the garrison on the Gondar/Adowa Mule Track,
sent his armored vehicles to open a route of escape for his garrison.
But it was not to be.*
*
Even under the withering machine gun fire of the LC-33s, one brave
national crept behind one of the armored machines, clanged on the hatch
and shouted, "Open Up!" in Italian. The startled tankers popped their
covers and Balambaras Tashemma with a quick left-right sweep of his
sword beheaded both of them.*
*
Surrounding the vehicles, which could only fire forward, the Ethiopians
literally swayed the vehicles till they tipped over on their side, one
by one.*
*
As the fuel leaked from them, the attackers gleefully set them ablaze.*
*
As the tankers emerged, some in flames, they were either decapitated or
shot down.*
*
Ethiopia would not be the quick victory Mussolini sought after all.**

battle in his book, "Iron Cavalry."*
